Nick Nicolay
President and Owner
Kar's Nuts
Nick began his professional career as a commercial lender with National Bank of Detroit (NBD Bank) before joining the “family business” at Kar’s Nuts. Nick’s father purchased the business from founder Sue Kar in 1967, and Nick spent summers at Kar’s performing a variety of jobs – from working in the warehouse to driving trucks across Southeast Michigan delivering products to Kar’s customers. Snack food is in his blood, as a third generation owner of a snack food company: his grandfather was the founder of Detroit-based New Era Potato Chips. Nick has served as Kar’s president since 1995.
Nick served on the board of the Peanut and Tree Nut Processors Association and was president in 1999 -2000. In addition, he was actively involved in the Ferndale Chamber of Commerce and currently devotes time to various committees at Orchard Lake Country Club. Nick also serves on the board of directors for Awakened Heart Ministries, a nonprofit Christian organization.
Nick is a graduate of Michigan State University where he earned a MBA in Finance and a bachelor’s degree in Marketing.
