Carol Cain is the 12 time Emmy Award Winning Senior Producer/ Host of “Michigan Matters” — the weekly show airing 11:30 a.m. Sundays on CBS 62 focusing on politics, business, education and more. Carol has hosted “Michigan Matters” since its debut. It features high profile guests as well as weekly panelists from business, politics, education, and sports. Carol has interviewed Govs. Gretchen Whitmer, Rick Snyder, Howard Dean, Jeb Bush, GM CEO Mary Barra, Bill Ford, Dan Gilbert, Hank Aaron, the Chinese Ambassador to the U.S. to name a few. She also is assisting the CBS station with its Peabody-nominated “Eye on the Future” initiative which was launched to take on important issues impacting the community. “The Power of Family Business” — which included MBPA — was honored with an Emmy in 2019.
Carol also is an award-winning columnist at Detroit Free Press, writing about business, politics and more. She has carved a path spotlighting the importance of diversity and inclusion. She has written numerous articles and columns that talk about the importance of building bridges throughout the community and also to places like China, Israel and more.
A prolific writer, she also conducted an exclusive online digital debate between President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential contest for CBS which ran nationally.
She has served as a national editor, international editor, business editor and columnist at Detroit Free Press, business editor at Toledo Blade, business reporter and nationally-syndicated columnist at The Detroit News, and reporter and editor at United Press International.
Born in Detroit, she attended Detroit Public Schools and obtained a BA in Communications from Michigan State University, and an MBA from UM’s Ross School of Business.
Carol has received numerous awards for her work from NAWBO, Inforum, the Greater Detroit Chinese Association, the Michigan Muslim Community Council, the League of Women Voters, Niagara Foundation, Detroit Chinese Business Association, the NAACP, the Michigan Business & Professional Association, and others.
