Following his recently published book, Mike will tell the story of how a decision to focus on employees put E&V on a 10-year path to becoming an unmistakable business. He will share specific strategies, inspirational stories and lessons learned along the journey to Become Unmistakable. Participants will hear how E&V applied the Unmistakable approach to develop a “virtual employee waiting room,” how they achieved local, regional and national recognition, how they became contractor of the year, and how they amassed an unbelievable 11+ year spotless safety record. The approach can apply to any organization in any industry.
Mike Novakoski is President & CEO of Elzinga & Volkers (EV)
Under Mike’s leadership, EV is a 10 year recipient of West Michigan’s “101 Best and Brightest Companies to work For” with eight of those years as an Elite Award winner; more than any one company in the program’s history. Additionally, EV has consistently ranked in the “National 101 Best & Brightest Companies to Work For” program and won the National Small Business Elite Award two years ago. Most recently, Elzinga & Volkers received the American Subcontracting Association of Michigan’s “Michigan Contractor of the Year” (MCOY) Award for 2016/17; EV also received this first place award in 2012/13. In addition to an undergraduate degree in Construction Management, Mike holds an MBA, has attended numerous leadership programs, and recently completed 240 hours of intense study to receive an “Innovation Management Certification.” Mike is long time member of an extremely active in Young Presidents Organization (YPO) and is also currently finishing the final unit of a 3 year long “Owner / President Management” program through Harvard. Mike thoroughly enjoys sharing the unique approach to the company’s success and he recently co-wrote and published “Become Unmistakable – Start the Journey from Commodity to Oddity” in May 2018.
