Health Insurance Marketplace Sees 68,366 More Michiganders Sign Up – MIRS
In its second year of existence, another 68,366 Michigan residents signed up for health insurance through the federally run website set aside for those in the individual market, according to numbers released today by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Michiganders enrolled in the Health Insurance Marketplace is now at 340,905, up 25 percent from the numbers released last year from the federal government (See “272,5309 Michiganders Enroll In Health Insurance Marketplace,” 5/1/14).
The HHS also reported that the marketplace in 2015 had 16 issuers and 64 health plans, up from 12 issuers and 29 health plans in 2014.
Federal officials noted that 88 percent of Michigan consumers who were signed up as of Jan. 30 qualify for an average tax credit of $240 per month through the Marketplace.
Nationwide, about 11.4 of Americans selected Marketplace plans or were automatically re-enrolled including about 8.6 people in the 37 states that use the HealthCare.gov platform.
“We had strong open enrollment,” said HHS Secretary Sylvia BURWELL. “In the final day, more new consumers signed up for health coverage than on any other day this Open Enrollment or last.”
